Description

Biophysical Reports is a gold open access journal that publishes short papers and regular articles in all disciplines encompassed by biophysics, with a particular emphasis on methods and techniques (biological, chemical, or physical) for biophysical research, as well as concepts and ideas that present major conceptual advances or represent new views on existing data and results. It is committed to rapid publication of Letters and Reports in addition to Research Articles and Reviews. Biophysical Reports provides a venue for papers that are written for specialists as well as those written for the broader biophysics community.

The journal will consider five types of submissions: Letters are short articles reporting exceptionally important results that require rapid publication. Letters should potentially change the way the reader thinks about an important topic or address a critical question. A Letter should tell a complete story without needing extensive supporting data. Attention will be paid to the significance of the results. Letters are reviewed by a single member of the editorial board and are on an accelerated publication track. Method reviews are intended to offer researchers an opportunity to present an overview of an existing method of importance in biophysical research. New data/results can be included but are not required. Authors interested in contributing a method review are encouraged to submit a pre-submission inquiry. Reports are short, single-point stories that might introduce a breakthrough experimental method or analysis tool, describe a theoretical model, or present a standalone result. Reports are also published rapidly but undergo peer review by at least two subject-matter experts. Research Articles present original research in any area of biophysics, especially those areas that are cross-disciplinary. Biophysical Reports provides a venue for those authors who are required to or choose to publish their research in a fully open access online journal. Articles can be focused for specialists or aimed at the general biophysics audience. A Research Article could introduce novel results and interpretations, describe new methods or inventions that can be applied to a biological system, or introduce new technologies that have the potential to open new areas of biophysical investigation. The biophysics of biological systems can range from atomic to molecular to cellular to organismal, with investigations at the bench or in silico. Articles are reviewed by two or three biophysicists, with the goal of publishing exciting and topical science. Reviews provide comprehensive and in-depth overviews on techniques, methods, or tools, both experimental and theoretical, which are of particular importance for biophysics research. Review topics should be of high actuality and sufficiently broad appeal and should fully cover the existing literature. Authors interested in contributing a Review are encouraged to submit a pre-submission inquiry.
