BBA Advances

One of the 10 topical journals of BBA

BBA Advances is an open access multidisciplinary journal that is complementary to the existing nine BBA journals. It publishes high-quality research showing novel results in all aspects of biochemistry, biophysics, and related areas, such as molecular and cell biology, and aims to provide a vibrant forum for researchers to explore topics that are important to them and their community.

We have particular interest in papers with mechanistic insights or significant novelty.

Phase transitions in biology

Biophysics of cellular homeostasis

Protein misfolding and functional self-assembly

The journal publishes full research articles, reviews, mini-reviews, and research letters. An addition to this list is "Five Burning Questions," an initiative to promote a scientific topic in a succinct and focused format. We offer researchers the opportunity to identify what they find to be the five most important questions that need to be addressed in an area important to them. We will then publish these papers in a special subsection of the journal. See the Guide for Authors for details on the format.

The journal operates the same high standard and rigor of peer review as the other BBA journals. Authors can submit papers for consideration and peer review directly to the journal through the submission site. Uniquely, the journal also offers a parallel route to publication for authors. Once an author has had their paper peer-reviewed and accepted in one of the other BBA journals, they have the option of choosing to publish their paper in either the journal they submitted to or transferring their accepted paper to BBA Advances for publication without further review.
