Annals of Anatomy

Annals of Anatomy publishes peer-reviewed original articles as well as review articles. Particular emphasis is placed on translational anatomy and morphology, highlighting how structural insights contribute to clinical practice, surgical innovation, regenerative medicine, bioengineering, and therapeutic approaches. The journal especially values studies that explore morphology and form–function relationships, linking structure with physiological, biomechanical, or behavioral outcomes. The journal encourages interdisciplinary contributions that integrate anatomy with related fields such as bioengineering, computational modeling, and applied clinical or biomedical sciences.

The journal welcomes studies in anatomy and morphology at all levels, from molecules to organisms, provided they advance anatomical or morphological understanding, with particular relevance to:

• Aging and lifespan biology

• Biomechanics, clinical anatomy, imaging sciences, and methodological innovation (including 3D and computational modeling technologies)

• Cell, molecular, and immunobiology

• Comparative and evolutionary morphology

• Developmental, reproductive, and embryological biology

• Ethics, broader societal and policy relevance, and public health implications related to anatomical and morphological science

• Gender topics related to anatomy.

• Neuroscience with a structural, neuroanatomical, or morpho functional focus

The journal also considers manuscripts on all aspects of anatomical and morphological teaching, curricula design, and educational innovations, including the use of digital technologies, simulation, and virtual/augmented reality. In addition to original research, state-of-the-art reviews (invited only), methodological notes, and perspectives are welcomed. Priority is given to experimental and functional studies; purely descriptive reports will only be published if of clear functional significance.

Beyond scientific contributions, Annals of Anatomy also serves as a platform for professional and regulatory aspects of anatomical practice. Manuscripts addressing clinical applications, legislation affecting specimen use, and other formal constraints on anatomical research and teaching are encouraged, highlighting the direct impact of anatomical knowledge on medical practice.
