Description

Understanding Plant-Microbe Interactions: Microbiomes and Biopesticides for Sustainable Agriculture provides a thorough examination of the essential role microbes play in sustainable agriculture. This book addresses the need for environmentally friendly crop management strategies amid growing global populations and decreasing arable land. It examines the relationship between beneficial microbes and harmful pathogens and shows how symbiotic interactions enhance plant growth and strengthen tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses. By bringing in advances in molecular biology tools such as high-throughput sequencing, this textbook presents up-to-date methodologies and analytics that are shaping research in plant-microbe interactions. It discusses the importance of microbial products as effective alternatives to chemical pesticides and growth enhancers. The book is organized into chapters that look at key aspects of plant-microbe interactions. It begins with advances in microbiome studies and biocontrol agent identification, followed by the roles of endophytes and mycorrhizal fungi in crop production and biotic stress mitigation. Subsequent chapters cover the use of fungi and plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPRs) as biocontrol agents, biopesticides for abiotic stress, and microbial inoculants against nematodes. Later chapters address molecular advances like metagenomics and CRISPR, microbes in nutrient cycling, antimicrobial biocontrol agents, and agro-nanotechnology applications in disease management. It is ideal for researchers, advanced students, and industry professionals in agricultural sciences, microbiology, plant biology, and biotechnology. By combining clear explanations, key points, and practical case studies to support both learning and real-world applications in sustainable crop production, this book equips learners with the tools needed to advance research, improve agricultural practices, and promote environmental sustainability.
