    La spécificité technique de certains sports et le niveau de pratique de plus en plus élevé des compétiteurs exposent le rachis à des risques traumatiques ou microtraumatiques croissants. Par ailleurs, l'augmentation de la moyenne d'âge des sportifs pose le problème plus général de la tolérance rachidienne de l'activité physique en raison d'une fragilité acquise liée à la dégénérescence physiologique. Que rechercher ? Avec quels moyens ? Dans quel ordre ? Comment traiter ? Comment prévenir ? Telles sont les questions que le médecin se pose devant tout sportif rachialgique et auxquelles il devra trouver une réponse, aidé en cela par l'examen clinique, toujours indispensable, et les examens complémentaires.
