Très illustrée, cette 2e édition est entièrement mise à jour sur le plan de l'évolution des données médicales et enrichie de deux chapitres supplémentaires, portant sur l'évaluation de la gravité et la recherche des complications précoces chez un traumatisé crânio-facial (item 330 du nouveau programme de DFASM, item 201 de l'ancien programme), et sur la dysphagie (item 270, item 308). De plus, le traitement du cholestéatome est approfondi dans le chapitre sur les otites chroniques. Enfin, le chapitre sur les tumeurs des voies aérodigestives (item 145) est entièrement revu. En début d'ouvrage, un tableau de correspondance inédit entre l'ancien et le nouveau programme offre un repérage rapide des changements intervenus dans la discipline : numéros d'items + objectifs pédagogiques.
