Nueva edición del texto que tiene como objetivo de convertirse en una introducción básica a las definiciones, la lógica y el uso del método epidemiológico para dilucidar los factores que influyen en la salud y en la enfermedad. Así, se incluyen tanto "ejemplos clásicos" de los primeros días del desarrollo de la disciplina como ejemplos actuales, y siempre que eso ha sido posible, basados en la práctica clínica.  La sexta ed. de este libro se presenta ya bajo la marca "Gordis" y son dos nuevos autores los que toman el relevo; ambos reputados expertos en epidemiología y que trabajaron con el Prof. Gordis hasta su fallecimiento en 2015. La obra se organiza en un total de 20 capítulos agrupados en tres secciones. La sección aborda cómo se utiliza la epidemiología para comprender la salud y la enfermedad en las poblaciones, así como los fundamentos de las intervenciones para influir en la historia natural de la enfermedad. La Sección 2 detalla los métodos utilizados por los epidemiólogos principalmente para atribuir asociaciones entre una exposición hipotética (riesgo) y un resultado de salud. La Sección 3 aborda las aplicaciones cotidianas de la epidemiología en la salud pública. La nueva edición ha sido actualizada en su totalidad, incluyendo nuevos ejemplos, y algunos de los capítulos han sido reescritos y ampliados. Igualmente, se han añadido nuevas preguntas de repaso al final de la mayoría de capítulos y se han mantenido los objetivos de aprendizaje al inicio.
