This five-volume reference work builds upon the success of the previous edition in bringing the underpinning science and understanding of materials degradation up to date. Shreir’s Corrosion, 2nd edition will cover the range of innovations and applications that have emerged in recent years and address the needs of specific industries and applications.

Developed in partnership with experts from the Corrosion and Protection Centre at the University of Manchester, Shreir’s Corrosion, Second Edition. meets the research and productivity needs of engineers, consultants, and researchers alike.

The new edition extends the more science-oriented contents of the previous edition to cover technological problems and solutions for specific industries and application areas. Examples of industry focus include: energy (new nuclear, thermal power, hydrocarbon extraction, wind, solar, battery and fuel cell systems), infrastructure (built environment, key utility assets), transport (highways, rail, vehicles, aerospace) and new materials (e.g. composites).

All the chapters of the previous edition have been updated, and brand new chapters have been added to expand coverage in areas such as corrosion management, risk-based inspection and management, field inspection; environmental concerns, including sustainability and legislative drivers; general economic concerns, including moving towards a circular economy and re-cyclability.
