Description

“Short Bowel Syndrome in Children: A Comprehensive Guide for Pediatric Clinicians and Researchers” addresses the complex management of pediatric short bowel syndrome (SBS), offering a detailed overview from its underlying causes to multidisciplinary treatment options. The book begins with chapters focusing on the fundamental aspects of SBS such as its epidemiology, etiology, pathophysiology and intestinal adaptation. It then explores clinical management, including diagnostic approaches, nutritional strateies, line access and care considerations, pharmacological and novel therapies, as well as surgical interventions like intestinal lengthening and small bowel transplantation. Potential complications and long-term rehabilitation approaches are also discussed. The book then concludes with a look towards future developments, including emerging biotechnology such as tissue engineering, stem cell therapies, and the integration of artificial intelligence. This reference equips pediatric gastroenterologists, surgeons and clinicians with the latest evidence-based protocols and innovative approaches necessary for advancing patient care. Its comprehensive, visual, and practical format makes it an essential resource for improving clinical outcomes, guiding research, and fostering best practices in pediatric SBS management.
