Joel M. Gelfand

Dr. Joel M. Gelfand is the James J. Leyden Endowed Professor of Clinical Investigation and Professor of Dermatology and Epidemiology at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. As co-founder and Director of the Center for Clinical Sciences in Dermatology and the Psoriasis and Phototherapy Treatment Center, Dr. Gelfand is a leading expert in psoriasis, epidemiology, drug safety, and clinical trials. His pioneering research first identified the increased risk of cardiovascular disease and mortality in psoriasis patients, influencing clinical practice worldwide. With over 330 scientific publications and an H-index of 101, Dr. Gelfand’s work has been widely recognized and cited across top medical journals. He founded the Dermatology Clinical Effectiveness Research Network (DCERN), fostering patient-centered research across the United States. Recipient of numerous prestigious awards, Dr. Gelfand is also Deputy Editor for Clinical Research at the Journal of Investigative Dermatology and Chief Medical Editor for Healio Dermatology.
