Description
Natural Products as Antiparasitic Agents Against Ciliate Infections in Aquaculture is an essential reference focusing on sustainable approaches to managing parasitic ciliates affecting aquatic species. This book addresses the urgent need for eco-friendly, effective alternatives to chemical treatments, which face issues of resistance, environmental impact, and food safety concerns. It systematically reviews plant-derived compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, and terpenes, highlighting their efficacy and mechanisms against ciliates like Ichthyophthirius multifiliis and Cryptocaryon irritans.
This book covers the molecular and cellular mechanisms, including oxidative stress pathways, membrane disruption, and programmed cell death, supported by experimental and clinical case studies. Practical workflows for screening, efficacy testing, formulation, and regulatory assessment are provided, equipping researchers and practitioners with tools for real-world application. The book also discusses safety, residue depletion, and environmental fate, ensuring comprehensive guidance for sustainable parasite management. Its interdisciplinary approach benefits aquaculture researchers, veterinarians, natural product chemists, and industry professionals seeking innovative, effective, and environmentally responsible solutions. By combining scientific rigor with practical insights, this reference aims to advance research and application of natural antiparasitic agents, fostering sustainable aquaculture practices worldwide.
