Veronika Magdanz
Veronika Magdanz, born in Rathenow, Germany, in 1985, studied biotechnology at the TU Braunschweig from 2004-2010 and chemical engineering at the University of Waterloo, Canada from 2007-2008 as an ISAP exchange student. She received her doctorate in biology in 2016 from TU Dresden after performing pioneering work on biohybrid microrobots at the Institute for Integrative Nanosciences of the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research in Dresden (IFW). From 2017-2020, she conducted metabolic and kinetic studies on sperm of various species as an Open Topic Postdoc at the Chair of Applied Zoology at the TU Dresden besides continuing her research on sperm-hybrid microrobots. In 2020, she was awarded a Feodor-Lynen Fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt foundation to join the Smart nanobiodevices group at IBEC, Barcelona. She is currently La Caixa Junior Leader at IBEC conducting research on various biohybrid and bioinspired robots.

Islam S.M. Khalil
IIslam S.M. Khalil received his Ph.D. degree in mechatronics engineering from Sabanci University in 2011 and became a postdoctoral research associate with the Robotics and Mechatronics research group and MIRA–Institute for Biomedical Technology and Technical Medicine, University of Twente, The Netherlands. In 2014, he became an assistant professor with the German University in Cairo, Egypt, Department of Mechatronics, where he directed the Medical Micro and Nano Robotics Laboratory. In 2018, he was appointed as associate professor at the same department. In 2019, he became an assistant professor with the University of Twente, Department of Biomechanical Engineering. His research interests include modeling, design, and control of soft microrobots, biologically inspired systems, motion control systems, mechatronics system design, and untethered magnetic micro/nanorobotics with applications to micro/nanomanipulation, magnetic manipulation, and targeted drug delivery.
