Description
Introduction to Clinical Engineering, Second Edition provides a comprehensive and systematically updated examination of the role of clinical engineering within modern healthcare systems. The text articulates how engineering principles are integrated into patient-centered care delivery, addressing a persistent gap created by the lack of formalized clinical engineering degree programs. It presents a practitioner-focused framework that supports safe and effective medical device use, workflow optimization, and compliance with regulatory requirements. This revised edition expands its scope to reflect the evolving healthcare technology landscape, introducing artificial intelligence at a conceptual level while offering deeper analysis of cybersecurity and healthcare information technology. Particular emphasis is placed on interoperability, hospital technology ecosystems, and the growing interdependencies among clinical systems. Updates to U.S. regulatory policies and emerging cybersecurity risks are fully integrated throughout the text. Designed for healthcare researchers and educators, Introduction to Clinical Engineering, Second Edition delivers a coherent, analytically grounded approach to healthcare technology management. It supports evidence-based decision-making, technology lifecycle optimization, and regulatory compliance, while fostering workforce competency development and enabling the translation of theory into efficient, cost-effective, and patient-centered clinical outcomes.
