Nathalie Pettorelli
Professor Nathalie Pettorelli is a leading conservation biologist at the Institute of Zoology, Zoological Society of London, specializing in biodiversity science, climate change ecology, and environmental monitoring. She leads an interdisciplinary research group focused on mitigating climate change impacts on biodiversity, advancing global biodiversity monitoring, and promoting coexistence between wildlife and people. As Editor-in-Chief of Remote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, Prof Pettorelli pioneers the use of satellite remote sensing to inform nature-based solutions and rewilding strategies that support nature recovery amid rapid environmental change. To date, she has co-authored pieces with >600 scientists and practitioners from all continents, on issues primarily related to climate change and biodiversity loss.
A committed advocate for equality, diversity, and inclusion in science, she co-founded Soapbox Science to elevate women and non-binary scientists. Prof Pettorelli serves on key advisory committees, including Defra’s Biodiversity Expert Committee and the Office for Environmental Protection College of Experts. Her work bridges cutting-edge research and policy, aiming to foster a future where nature and humanity thrive together.
