About the editors

Hicham Oufettoul

Hicham Oufettoul is a Project Manager at the Green Energy Park Research Platform (GEP, IRESEN/UM6P), in Ben Guerir, Morocco. An IEEE member, he holds a PhD in electrical engineering from the Mohammadia School of Engineers in Rabat, Morocco, and a master's degree in renewable energy engineering, specializing in energy efficiency and electrical energy from the Polydisciplinary Faculty of Beni Mellal. Dr. Oufettoul is currently involved in several research projects, including in PV intelligence, greywater treatment, battery management systems, and digital twin development. His current research focuses on developing intelligent reconfiguration techniques under partial shading, advanced monitoring, detection, and diagnostic tools for photovoltaic array failures, and the development of maintenance tools. He has published scientific papers in several international journals and has participated in several conferences.

Ibtihal Ait Abdelmoula

Mrs. Ibtihal Ait Abdelmoula is an R&D Engineer and the Head of the Digitalization and Data Science Group at the Green Energy Park Research Platform (GEP, IRESEN/UM6P), in Ben Guerir, Morocco. Previously responsible for electrical systems at the GEP, she holds a degree in electrical engineering and embedded systems from the National School of Applied Science, Marrakesh, and is currently pursuing a PhD degree focused on anomaly detection and predictive maintenance of PV systems using edge computing and federated learning techniques. As a certified Renewable Energy Project Manager for PV and Diesel, Mrs. Ibtihal has extensive experience in monitoring and supervision of PV plants and leads the team behind the development of SCADA systems for the Green Energy Park platforms. In her current role, she oversees projects related to the applications of digital twinning and hybrid detection systems for PV plants, and the development and deployment of energy management systems.

Hicham Abou Oualid

Hicham Abou Oualid is a researcher and the Head of the Water Treatment Group at the Green Energy Park Research Platform (GEP, IRESEN/UM6P), in Ben Guerir, Morocco. With a double master's degree in analytical sciences, environment and instrumentation at Paul Sabatier University in Toulouse, France, and a PhD in materials science (nanomaterials for catalysis/environment), he is an associate member of many laboratories in several fields such as corrosion science, wastewater treatment, and green synthesis of nanomaterials. Dr. Abou Oualid is now working on many projects related to water and energy, and specifically on water adsorption of humidity and solar catalysis for grey water decontamination for irrigation of green spaces, as well as the development of nanomaterials for antibacterial activities.

Saad Motahhir

Dr. Saad Motahhir (Eng., PhD, AGYA Member) is a Professor and Director of the Applied Sciences and Innovative Technologies Laboratory (LSATI) at ENSA, SMBA University, Fez, Morocco, with extensive expertise in embedded systems and renewable energy technologies. He previously worked as an Embedded Systems Engineer at Zodiac Aerospace Morocco (2014–2019), holds an engineering degree in Embedded Systems from ENSA Fez (2014), and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from SMBA University (2018). Dr. Motahhir has authored numerous publications, primarily focusing on photovoltaic solar energy optimisation and embedded systems, and has contributed to patented innovative projects. He is a book series editor for IET and Taylor & Francis, a guest editor for special journal issues, and serves on editorial boards and as a reviewer for various journals. Additionally, he is the Conference Co-chair of ICDTA, a member of the Arab Youth Center Council and AGYA, and has led work packages in European projects while acting as an expert and consultant for European and national initiatives.

Mostapha Tarfaoui

Mostapha Tarfaoui is a Full Professor at the Green Energy Park Research Platform (GEP, IRESEN/UM6P), in Ben Guerir, Morocco. An internationally recognized expert in composite and nanocomposite materials, specializing in advanced, sustainable solutions using carbon nanotubes, graphene nanoparticles, and carbon black, his work pioneers the application of ultra-light, high-strength materials that push the boundaries of performance and sustainability in structural design, with a particular focus on industrial scale-up. Prof. Tarfaoui has led several prominent research and industrial projects, with partners across the USA, UK, Italy, and Czech Republic, playing an important role in EU-funded projects and high-impact industry collaborations, including with WINFLO and Bombardier. He has over 250 peer-reviewed publications, has supervised over 100 students, and has been involved in over 20 journal editorial boards. He received the Peer Prize for Climate and the French Navy’s Amiral Daveluy Prize, and was included on Stanford University’s list of the world’s top 2% scientists from 2021 to 2024.
