SAFEPROCESS '97 was the third in this major IFAC symposia series and covered a wide range of theoretical and application studies concerned with the reliability, availability and safety of controlled systems.
The goal of the symposium was to bring together experts from different fields to give an overview of the state-of-the-art, present new research results and show future developments. In addition, there was special emphasis on industrial requirements for FDI (fault detection and isolation) and a new session on the human factors aspects of system monitoring and safety that reflects the growing interest in this area.
These proceedings contain the 209 papers presented at the symposium and comprise: plenary overviews; state-of-the-art reviews and surveys; the very latest results; and tutorial papers.
For those concerned with the reliability, availability and safety of controlled systems and, in particular, the applications of decision theory and pattern recognition methods.
Selected chapter headings and selected papers:Plenary Paper I. Process performance monitoring and fault detection through multivariate statistical process control (A.J. Morris, E.B. Martin). Invited Papers - Fault Detection and Diagnosis for Gas Turbine Applications. Dynamic system fault diagnosis based on neural network modelling (J. Zhou, S. Bennett). Quantitative Model-Based Approaches to FDI. Robust fault detection method for uncertain multivariable systems (O.K. Kwon et al.). Invited Papers - Robust FDI I. A cautious look at robustness in residual generation (J. Gertler). Statistical Techniques for FDI. A new estimator for dynamic stochastic systems with unknown inputs: application to robust fault diagnosis (J.Y. Keller, M. Darouach). Invited Papers - FDI for Induction Motors. Using the functionality of PWM inverters for fault diagnosis of induction motors (J. Beilharz, D. Filbert). Parameter Estimation for FDI: Theory and Applications. Parameter estimation using sliding mode principles (F.J.J. Hermans, M.B. Zarrop). Fuzzy Logic and Neural Network Techniques in FDI I. Direct model-based fault diagnosis using neural filters (A. Alessandri, T. Parisini). Industrial Applications I. DIALOGS: a fault diagnostic toolbox for industrial processes (D. Theilliol et al.). Nonlinear Observers for FDI.
