Description

Distillation: Fundamentals and Operations, Second Edition provides a comprehensive introduction to the scientific and engineering foundations of modern distillation technology, and is tailored for chemical engineers, process designers, researchers, and students in chemical engineering and related fields. Revised and extended, the volume covers the fundamental principles, practical aspects, and recent developments relevant to the analysis, design, and operation of distillation processes. The chapters trace the history of distillation and examine vapor–liquid equilibria, physical properties, mass transfer, energy use, heat exchange, and column internals. Further sections provide practical guidance on performance testing, troubleshooting, and special distillation operations. This updated edition also introduces high-gravity distillation as an example of process intensification aimed at improving mass-transfer performance, energy efficiency, and equipment compactness. This edition builds on the success of its PROSE award-winning predecessor, integrating new developments and research. Whether you are involved in energy efficiency, sustainability, or advanced process design, this book serves as a vital reference, empowering you to enhance your expertise and drive innovation in distillation technology.
