There is a trend for non-dermatologists (such as NPs, PAs, and other primary care providers) to increasingly see patients with skin conditions, leaving dermatologists to handle difficult and refractory cases.

The Dermatology DDx Deck made a huge impact with a unique “paint chip” format allowing users to flip through images, comparing and contrasting clinical appearance of 160 common skin conditions. The reverse of the card then provides a brief overview of key therapies.

It has proved hugely popular, especially with non-dermatologists, in particular nurse practitioners, primary care providers and physician assistants, who spend a large portion of their time dealing with patients with skin conditions and who would like to make a best possible assessment of the patient before potentially referring to dermatology.

Originally developed to guide readers on diagnosis and basic treatment, the DDx Deck has evolved to become a tool for patient education in the clinic and a learning-through-exposure resource for exam preparation.
