Description

Cytokines: Molecular Signals in Health and Disease offers a detailed guide to cytokines, their molecular mechanisms and impact on disease. The book is divided into four sections, first considering the fundamentals of cytokines including structural and functional classification, cytokine receptors, chemokines, and pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines. The book moves on to discuss the mechanisms of cytokines in disease, including genetics of cytokines, signaling pathways, and interaction between cytokines and cells. The third section explores cytokine-related diseases, including allergies, immunodeficiency disorders, rare diseases, cancer and impact in specific organ systems. Finally, the book closes with a section on cytokine release syndrome.

This book acts as a comprehensive reference on this significant molecule and its role in cellular function and the development of disease and disorders. It is ideal for researchers in the fields of molecular biology and immunology, and those looking to investigate the significance of cytokines in disease pathogenesis and potential therapeutic intervention.

Jolan Walter

Editor

Dr. Jolan Walter is the Robert A. Good Endowed Chair and Division Chief of Pediatric Allergy/Immunology as well as Associate Professor, of Pediatrics, Medicine & Molecular Biology at the University of South Florida in Tampa. She is also the Division Chief of Pediatric Allergy/Immunology and Director of the Jeffrey Modell Diagnostic & Research Center at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida. Dr. Walter’s research focus is understanding disease mechanisms of combined immunodeficiencies, and breach in tolerance in immune dysregulation disorders and cytokines, which leads to autoimmune complications and inflammation as well as improving the precision of diagnosis, disease monitoring and treatment of these disorders. She has authored many peer-reviewed articles, and her research is supported by multiple grants including NIH/R01, institutional grants, and other sponsors such as the Jeffrey Modell Foundation.
