Crude Glycerol – A Sustainable Feedstock for the Production of Biofuels and Biochemicals delves into the transformative potential of crude glycerol (CG) as a sustainable, cost-effective feedstock for biofuels and biochemicals. Covering essential topics such as the microbial fermentation of CG into valuable products like biohydrogen, biogas, and biobutanol, this book serves as a critical resource for researchers, industry professionals, and educators. The book addresses various aspects of CG valorization, including its inherent impurities and purification techniques, alongside detailed discussions on the microbial production of key biochemicals such as butanediol, succinic acid, and lactic acid. Each chapter is crafted to provide insights into bioprocess engineering, genetic manipulation of microbial catalysts, and techno-economic analyses to ensure effective conversion and commercialization of biofuels and biochemicals derived from CG.
- Explores the potential of crude glycerol (CG) as a renewable feedstock for microbial fermentation, highlighting its advantages over traditional cellulosic biomass sources
- Analyzes the metabolic pathways influenced by CG, detailing how glycerol serves as a substrate that leads to the production of commercially valuable bioproducts
- Discusses advanced pretreatment strategies for CG, providing insights into how to effectively prepare this feedstock for optimal microbial utilization and bioconversion
- Evaluates the role of microbial biocatalysts in the valorization of CG, presenting cutting-edge discoveries and techniques for enhancing bioprocess efficiency and product yield
