Description

In an era where human exploration extends beyond Earth and personalized nutrition has become a cornerstone of health, understanding how environments influence dietary needs is paramount. Biophysical Nutrition: How Environments Shape Diets from Earth to Space bridges the divide between nutritional science and biophysics and sheds light on the physical principles that govern digestion, absorption, and metabolism across terrestrial and extraterrestrial settings.

Divided into three comprehensive sections, Biophysical Nutrition: How Environments Shape Diets from Earth to Space explores foundational concepts such as thermodynamics of metabolism and membrane biophysics, while addressing adaptation mechanisms to extreme environments including microgravity and spaceflight. It highlights innovative approaches to space agriculture, dietary delivery systems, and alternative proteins designed for long-duration missions. Emphasizing translational applications and ethical considerations, this book equips researchers and professionals with the tools to design personalized nutrition strategies informed by biophysical modeling for challenging environments including Space. Essential for researchers in nutrition science, biomedical fields, and planetary science, this work paves the way for future innovations in dietetics from Earth’s most challenging environments to celestial habitats.
