This book is composed of 12 chapters that survey the molecular and biochemical approaches bearing on the problem of hormone mechanism. The opening chapters discuss the thyroid hormonal responses during metamorphic process in Amphibia; the primary role of hormones in biochemical differentiation; the influence of hormones on protein synthesis and the importance of protein synthesis mechanism; and the biochemical rhythms within the pineal gland and the rhythm in hepatic tyrosine transaminase activity. The subsequent chapters examine the effects of a number of hormones on transport systems in the cell membranes, the protein interaction with steroids, and the influence of insulin on protein and nucleic acid metabolism.
