Yimin Qin

Dr. Yimin Qin is Director of the State Key Laboratory of Bioactive Seaweed Substances at Qingdao Brightmoon Seaweed Group, China. He is also a Professor of Chemical Engineering at Jiaxing University, China, where he is a teacher and researcher. He has more than thirty years of experience working on the research and development of alginate and chitosan-based fibrous materials. He obtained his PhD in Textile Sciences and Engineering from the University of Leeds, UK, in 1990, and subsequently spent three years at Heriot-Watt University, UK, as a post-doc researcher. Dr Qin was the Product Development Manager in Advanced Medical Solutions plc in Cheshire, UK, where he led a team of scientists and developed a number of high performance wound dressings from alginate, chitosan and other natural polymers. He then went to study for an MBA at Manchester Business School, UK, and after graduation, took up the position of Fibers Product Manager in SSL International plc, working on advanced antimicrobial biomaterials. Dr Qin’s main research interests focus on the extraction, modification and applications of alginate and other novel bioactive seaweed substances.
