In diesen Leitlinien wird deshalb das Gesamtgebiet der Laboratoriumsdiagnose von Parasiten-Infektionen beschrieben. Im Allgemeinen Teil werden Besonderheiten dargestellt, die für die Auswahl der Patienten und der Untersuchungsmaterialien sowie den Versand zu beachten sind. Weiterhin werden Untersuchungsmethoden gezeigt, die in jedem parasitologischen Labor Anwendung finden. Im Speziellen Teil folgen, thematisch geordnet, alle relevanten Parasitosen mit Angabe des Erregers, seiner Verbreitung und ein Hinweis zum Infektionszyklus. Der Untersuchungsgang wird so dargestellt, dass der Leser erkennen kann, an welcher Stelle des Untersuchungsganges ggf. die Unterstützung durch ein Fachlabor erforderlich ist (Stufendiagnostik). Im Anhang findet sich ein tabellarischer Überblick über die erforderlichen Probenmaterialien und den darin zu erwartenden Erregern und auch Hinweise auf die von Parasiten ausgelösten klinischen Symptome. Eine tabellarische, alphabetisch geordnete Auflistung aller behandelten Parasitosen ermöglicht zum Abschluss eine schnelle Orientierung über eine sinnvolle Anordnung der Untersuchungsgänge.
