Conceptual Development for Future ResearchThe Human Resource Management Review (HRMR) is a quarterly academic journal devoted to the publication of scholarly conceptual/theoretical articles pertaining to human resource management and allied fields (e.g. industrial/organizational psychology, human capital, labor relations, organizational behavior). HRMR welcomes manuscripts that focus on micro-, macro-, or multi-level phenomena relating to the function and processes of human resource management. HRMR publishes articles that provide new insights aimed at stimulating future theory development and empirical research. Critical examinations of existing concepts, theories models, and frameworks are also welcome as are quantitative meta-analytical reviews that make a conceptual/theoretical contribution.Subject areas appropriate for HRMR include (but are not limited to) Strategic Human Resource Management, International Human Resource Management, the nature and role of the human resource function in organizations, any specific Human Resource function or activity (e.g., Job Analysis, Job Design, Workforce Planning, Recruitment, Selection and Placement, Performance and Talent Management, Reward Systems, Training, Development, Careers, Safety and Health, Diversity, Fairness, Discrimination, Employment Law, Employee Relations, Labor Relations, Workforce Metrics, HR Analytics, HRM and Technology, Social issues and HRM, Separation and Retention), topics that influence or are influenced by human resource management activities (e.g., Climate, Culture, Change, Leadership and Power, Groups and Teams, Employee Attitudes and Behavior, Individual, team, and/or Organizational Performance), and HRM Research Methods. Papers introducing or helping to advance our understanding of emergent HR topics or issues are also strongly encouraged.HRMR does not consider manuscripts that report qualitative or quantitative studies that test hypotheses or inductively examine ideas. In addition, conceptual papers and meta-analyses that do not sufficiently advance the literature in terms of providing novel insights for further theoretical development and empirical research will not be considered. Moreover, in its quest to foster the development of general theories and models, HRMR does not consider papers that deal with a single occupation, company, industry or country, nor cases of these entities (a single company, industry, etc. can be used as the primary example, but should not be the only example and the insights of the paper must be generalizable beyond that primary example). Finally, as a scholarly journal, manuscripts written primarily for practicing managers are also not considered. Submissions of these types of papers will be rejected as being outside the scope of the journal, unless requested as part of a special issue. The Editor and Associate Editors will provide an initial editorial review to determine whether submissions fall within the scope of the journal and/or are of sufficient merit to warrant peer review.

Databases: Their Creation, Management and UtilizationInformation systems are the software and hardware systems that support data-intensive applications. The journal Information Systems publishes articles concerning the design and implementation of languages, data models, process models, algorithms, software and hardware for information systems.Subject areas include data management issues as presented in the principal international database conferences (e.g., ACM SIGMOD/PODS, VLDB, ICDE and ICDT/EDBT) as well as data-related issues from the fields of data mining/machine learning, information retrieval coordinated with structured data, internet and cloud data management, business process management, web semantics, visual and audio information systems, scientific computing, and data science. We welcome systems papers that focus on implementation considerations in massively parallel data management, fault tolerance, and special purpose hardware for data-intensive systems; theoretical papers that either break significant new ground or unify and extend existing algorithms for data-intensive applications; and manuscripts from application domains, such as urban informatics, social and natural science, and Internet of Things, which present innovative, high-performance, and scalable solutions to data management problems for those domains.All papers should motivate the problems they address with compelling examples from real or potential applications. Systems papers must be serious about experimentation either on real systems or simulations based on traces from real systems. Papers from industrial organizations are welcome. Theoretical papers should have a clear motivation from applications and clearly state which ideas have potentially wide applicability.Authors of selected articles that have been accepted for publication in Information Systems are invited by the EiCs to submit the experiment described in their papers for reproducibility validation. The resulting additional reproducibility paper is co-authored by the reproducibility reviewers and the authors of the original publication.As part of its commitment to reproducible science, Information Systems also welcomes experimental reproducible survey papers. Such submissions must: (i) apply a substantial portion of the different surveyed techniques to at least one existing benchmark and perhaps one or more new benchmarks, and (ii) be reproducible (the validation of reproducibility will result in a separate paper following the guidelines of our Reproducibility Editor).In addition to publishing submitted articles, the Editors-in-Chief will invite retrospective articles that describe significant projects by the principal architects of those projects. Authors of such articles should write in the first person, tracing the social as well as technical history of their projects, describing the evolution of ideas, mistakes made, and reality tests. We will make every effort to allow authors the right to republish papers appearing in Information Systems in their own books and monographs.

Advances in information and communication technologies are associated with a wide and increasing range of social consequences, which are experienced by individuals, work groups, organizations, interorganizational networks, and societies at large. Understanding the relationships between communication, digital technologies and organizations is an increasingly important and urgent societal and scholarly concern in many disciplinary fields.Information and Organization seeks to publish original articles on the relationships between digital technologies, communication, and organizations. It seeks a scholarly understanding that is based on empirical research and builds novel theoretical contributions. A particular focus of Information and Organization is to publish qualitative and interpretive research which adopts case studies, ethnography and in-depth longitudinal empirical studies, including critical theory and science and technology studies.Papers that provoke critical thinking on important subjects are welcomed, including articles that focus on research impact and contributions to knowledge in our special section (RICK).
