Journal of Mathematical Psychology is a leading venue for rigorous, theory-driven quantitative approaches to psychology. The journal welcomes submissions that develop and apply formal approaches to generate theoretical insight, quantitative predictions, and principled explanations of psychological phenomena. Such approaches include, but are not limited to, mathematical modeling, statistical modeling, computational and simulation-based modeling, machine learning and artificial intelligence, particularly where these methods advance the understanding of psychological processes or theory.
The journal publishes work addressing a wide range of topics, including cognition, memory, decision making, perception, learning, psychophysics, neuroscience, group behavior, and fundamental issues in measurement and scaling. Submissions may be theoretical, empirical, methodological, or a combination thereof, but should make a clear and substantive contribution—for example, by advancing theory, introducing or rigorously evaluating methods, or providing novel empirical tests of formal models.
The journal publishes articles, reviews, notes, and commentaries in all areas of mathematical psychology. It is an official journal of the Society for Mathematical Psychology.
