Earth Critical Zone (ECZ) is a journal dedicated to exploring the complex interactions between rock, soil, water, air, and living organisms that together shape the Earth's surface. The journal focuses on addressing urgent global challenges such as food security, environmental pollution, ecological degradation, climate change, and sustainable development. It emphasizes the importance of interdisciplinary research - including natural sciences, social sciences, and engineering - to better understand and protect our planet.

ECZ publishes innovative research and review articles across a broad range of fields, including soil science, biology, hydrology, environmental science, ecology, and socioeconomics. Its main goals are (i) to deepen our understanding of the processes that impact life in the critical zone - from the tips of trees down to bedrock - and their interaction with environmental factors; and (ii) to identify practices and policies that maintain the health and functionality of this vital zone.

The journal covers key areas such as:

  • Soil Health

  • Plant Nutrient Cycling

  • Hydrology

  • Environmental Protection

  • Ecology

  • Socioeconomics

Through its publications, ECZ aims to foster a comprehensive understanding of the critical zone and contribute to strategies that promote the long-term health and sustainability of our planet.
