Michael Polte studierte Medizin an der Universität Lübeck und absolvierte anschließend die Weiterbildung zum Facharzt für Allgemeinmedizin. Während des Studiums sammelte er bereits erste redaktionelle Erfahrung bei einer Studierendenzeitschrift und war Autor für Pflege- und Physiotherapiebücher. Die Vermittlung von medizinischem Fachwissen hat er später als Dozent/Ausbilder für Pflege und Rettungsdienst weiter vertieft. Nach der Weiterbildung zum Facharzt für Allgemeinmedizin in Wuppertal und Köln absolvierte er in Bielefeld das Postgraduiertenstudium Public Health. Danach arbeitete er als Referent für Diseasemanagement beim BKK Landesverband Hessen in Frankfurt am Main und ist seit 2006 in Mainz in einer hausärztlichen Gemeinschaftspraxis niedergelassener Allgemeinarzt.
