Sustainable Geosciences: People, Planet and Prosperity is a gold open access (OA) journal focused on advancing sustainability through the publication of inter-disciplinary geoscience research addressing climate change and other pressing global challenges. Divided into three pillars: People, Planet, and Prosperity, articles will be mapped to geosciences projects and activities as they are positively impacting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's).

The journal will include invited review papers and regular papers in a variety of geo sub-disciplines, with expert editors for each subject area. The purpose will be on quality and meaningful papers that act as a catalyst to facilitate change and add value and motivation to the geoscience community focused on a sustainable earth. The journal will aim to have rigorous peer review and editorial processes, with reasonable time to first decision.

All article and special issue topics will stem from one or more of the three fundamental dimensions:

People Dimension: Positive impact on individuals

  • Geoscientific data for policy decisions

  • Supporting agriculture and health policies

  • Geologic mapping to identify health risks

  • Creating awareness of geoscience in society

  • Towards gender equity in geoscience

  • Access to water

Planet Dimension: Positive impact on physical systems

  • Monitoring water quality and infrastructure development

  • Affordable and clean energy

  • Accelerating decarbonization

  • Understanding resource and health of water environments

  • Protecting geodiversity and biodiversity with responsible production and consumption

  • Assessing forest ecosystem health

Prosperity dimension: positive impact on socioeconomic systems

  • Setting standards for resource extraction and reporting

  • Geoethics and accountability

  • Building resilience to geoenvironmental hazards

  • Addressing discrimination in all forms

  • Forecasting volcanic activity and risks

  • Heritage site preservation
