Measurement: Energy is an open access journal open to original, high-quality contributions from all relevant fields of this highly topical and multi-disciplinary subject.

Measurement: Energy is a companion journal to Measurement: Journal of the International Measurement Confederation (IMEKO) . It is one of the journals published by IMEKO with Elsevier.

The main aim of this journal is to provide a leading scientific publication platform for the international exchange and knowledge transfer of the latest advances in measurement science, metrology, characterization, diagnosis and condition monitoring in relation to renewable and conventional energy sources, heat and power generation, power transmission and storage, energy efficiency, and related scientific, technological and environmental issues.

The journal encourages the submission of manuscripts that provide novel insights and papers reporting recent advances in the field. Topics include, but are not limited, to:

  • Techniques or systems for the measurement of all electrical, mechanical, chemical and environmental quantities in the conversion, distribution and consumption of energy

  • Characterization, analysis and measurement of gaseous, liquid and solid fuels and fuel blends, including hydrogen, ammonia, natural gas, petrol, diesel, sustainable aviation fuel, marine diesel oil, heavy fuel oil, biofuel, coal, biomass, metal powder, waste, nuclear fuel etc.

  • "Diagnosis and monitoring of a diverse range of combustion devices, systems and processes, including internal combustion engines, aero engines, gas turbines, pulverised fuel fired furnaces, fluidized beds, cement kilns, glass furnaces, blast furnaces, grate fired boilers, domestic boilers, waste incinerators, cremators etc.

  • Metrology and measurement of gaseous, particulate, other pollutant emissions and combustion products from all combustion devices, systems and processes, including treatment and conditioning of nuclear waste

  • Metrology, diagnosis and measurement issues in relation to renewable energy sources, including solar energy materials, solar cells, solar energy systems, onshore and offshore wind turbines, hydropower and tidal wave systems, geothermal energy devices

  • Characterization of nuclear materials and monitoring of next generation nuclear power plants

  • Characterization and measurement issues in relation to fuel cells, batteries, energy storage materials, networked energy storage devices, energy harvesting devices and systems

  • Metrology and measurement issues throughout the Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage chain, including flow metering, leakage detection, long term monitoring of storage sites

  • Measurement and standards for power transmission, smart grids, gas distribution grids, energy networks, smart energy metering

  • Measurement of energy efficiency of electrical machines, industrial processes, buildings, industrial and residential areas, smart cities

Article Types

Measurement: Energy publishes the following types of papers, all of which are fully peer reviewed:

Regular Articles which should describe original research of high quality covering one of more of the above topics.

Review Articles which will generally be specially commissioned; however, suggestions for topics and authors are welcomed by the Editor-in-Chief.

Short Communications which take the form of short, self-contained articles highlighting ongoing research, or reporting interesting - possibly tentative - ideas, or comments on previously published research.

Special Issue Conference Articles which represent novel work arising from conferences and symposia.
