Request a sales quoteThe Journal of Hazardous Materials: Organics (JHM: Organics) publishes basic and applied research related to the occurrence of organic contaminants in the environment. We welcome studies involving any organic contaminant in water, wastewater, air, soil, sediment, flora, fauna, or other environmental phases. Our primary focus centres the analysis, fate, treatment, remediation, transport, and toxicity of organic contaminants. Specific areas of interest are identified below, but all studies related to organic contaminants will be considered for publication.
JHM: Organics publishes original research articles, critical reviews, perspectives, and short communications. We also welcome proposals for virtual special issues with a thematic focus related to the scope of JHM: Organics.
Manuscripts are subjected to an initial screening by the editor-in-chief to assess the scientific novelty, technical merit, and alignment with the scope of JHM: Organics. After passing the initial screening, manuscripts will be reviewed by an associate editor. Following that review, manuscripts may be sent to at least two peer reviewers, who will be asked to evaluate the manuscript and provide comments within two weeks. The associate editor will make their decision based on their own review and the aggregate feedback from reviewers.
We invite submission of manuscripts on the following topics:
Studies that involve contaminants of emerging concern, disinfection byproducts, endocrine disrupting chemicals, oil, pharmaceuticals and personal care products, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, persistent organic pollutants, pesticides, solvents, or any other organic chemical (collectively “organic contaminants”) in the environment
Analytical methods and techniques for measurement of organic contaminants in water, air, soil, sediment, tissue, or other phases
Targeted and nontargeted analysis of organic contaminants in natural systems and engineered water/wastewater treatment processes
Monitoring studies that provide new insights into the sources, fate, or transport of organic contaminants
Risk assessment of organic contaminants in the environment, drinking water, or wastewater
Physical, chemical, and biological approaches to treatment and remediation of organic contaminants
Degradation kinetics of organic contaminants in natural systems and engineered water/wastewater treatment processes
Identification of transformation products formed via treatment, remediation, or natural processing of organic contaminants
Partitioning of organic contaminants between water, air, soil, sediment, tissue, or other phases
Bioaccumulation and biomagnification of organic contaminants in aquatic and terrestrial organisms
Ecotoxicological studies of organic contaminants on microorganisms, microbial communities, and aquatic, terrestrial, and aerial organisms
Human health effects of organic contaminants
Other studies related to organic contaminants in the environment
