Evidence-based Oncology combines the best external evidence from systematic research with individual clinical expertise to make effective decisions about patient treatment and care. For each issue key articles are selected from the literature and reviewed in the form of a structured abstract and expert commentary. The concise and easy to read format is based on a well-accepted version of the EBM process that is derived from knowing how to:
• convert your information needs into an answerable question
• track down the best evidence to answer the question using hand-searched and electronic approaches
• critically appraise the evidence using multiple published quality scales and checklists
• apply the results in your clinical practice and use them to help with decision making
• evaluate your performance
The journal aims to:
• help practising physicians understand and apply the evidence
• identify PROSPECTIVELY all high quality evidence in oncology
• develop a catalog of high quality evidence, including evidence tables and balance tables summarizing benefit and harm (and cost) of alternative management strategies
• identify core information in oncology
For each issue of Evidence-based Oncology over 70 of the most authoritative and respected journals in the field are systematically scanned to produce the highest quality articles.
