LGBTQIA+ Access to Inflammatory Bowel Disease Healthcare: Current Trends and Considerations illuminates the unique medical, surgical, and mental health issues faced by LGBTQIA+ patients, providing clinicians with the knowledge to understand why these issues arise and how they can be effectively addressed. This crucial resource aims to elevate awareness among healthcare providers and commissioners about the need for gender- and identity-affirming care. As societal recognition of LGBTQIA+ rights grows, this book steps into the unexplored terrain of LGBTQIA+ healthcare and IBD, addressing both medical complexities and the social and political dimensions of care. The book opens with an introduction to the significance of LGBTQIA+ access to healthcare and the necessity for clinician awareness. It includes contributions from leading experts and a comprehensive glossary of relevant LGBTQIA+ terms. Key topics covered are the socio-cultural and political history influencing healthcare access, the impact of stigma on healthcare utilization and adherence, and specific medical, surgical, and mental health considerations for transgender patients with IBD.
