Based on the author’s experience and practice, the selected methods represent the current status of the field. Cell culture practices covered in this book include the ones used both in academic and corporate lab setting. The initial part of the book guides the reader through the key decisions and challenges involved with setting up a cell culture laboratory. Serum-free media is then discussed as the way to provide cells the requirements for their growth.

The next group of chapters cover the general procedures for cell culture, including selection of media, preparation and sterilization of equipment, tissue extraction or dissociation and initiation of the cell culture.
