Brain metastases in lung cancer patients aims to provide new insights into biology and clinical management of a feared and common disease, recapitulating and dissecting the molecular basis of metastatic brain dissemination from lung cancer. Lung cancer is among the leading causes of death worldwide and is frequently associated to the arousal of brain metastasis, most often discovered at diagnosis. A key role is played by liquid biopsy, as non-invasive informative tool for both diagnosis and monitoring of response to targeted therapies. Molecular mechanisms leading to tumour spreading to brain are almost unknown so that these tragic cases are still lacking effective therapies. The book looks into the epidemiology and clinical approach to brain-metastatic lung cancer, molecular basis of dissemination to the brain, and the novel therapeutic approaches. The book summarizes and analyses the pathogenic mechanisms leading to activation of scatter factor receptor in brain metastatic dissemination from the lungs within the perspective of designing less empirical treatment strategies than those currently used.
