Throughout her career, she has been actively involved in projects related to waste biorefinery technologies, cellulose recovery, and the conversion of lignocellulosic biomass into high-value products. Dr. Semerci has supervised master's theses, contributed to book chapters, and received scholarships and grants for her work.
Currently, she is holding the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Experienced Researcher Fellowship and conducting research in the Department of Process Systems Engineering (SVT) at RWTH Aachen University. She explores the potential of underutilized biomass in the eastern/southern Mediterranean using the biomass-derived solvent, gamma-valerolactone which is a solvent derived from the platform chemical, levulinic acid.
