Jaap J.M. van der Meer
Jaap JM van der Meer obtained a BSc, MSc and PhD at the University of Amsterdam, where he stayed until moving to London in 2000. He was Professor of Physical Geography until he retired in 2011. Prof van der Meer specializes in glacial processes and resulting landforms and sediments (transfer and temporary storage). Specifically focusing on glacial sediments, especially in thin sections and dynamic structures like push moraines. Prof van der Meer has published widely on these topics, including two co-edited volumes since retirement. His research is embedded in international work, encompassing collaboration with colleagues from most continents and fieldwork ranging from the Arctic to the Antarctic. He has co-hosted MSc training courses in London, nine international workshops for the micromorphology of glacial sediments for PhD students and Postdocs and also set up the Centre for Micromorphology at the University of London.

John Menzies
John Menzies is Professor of Earth Sciences and Geography at Brock University, Canada. He obtained degrees from the University of Aberdeen (BSc) and the University of Edinburgh (PhD). His main areas of research and expertise lie in glacial geomorphology and sedimentology with a special interest in the subglacial environment and MSGLs. He has established a micromorphology lab at Brock University and, over the past decades, has developed major research interests in glacial micromorphology/microsedimentology. He is the author of numerous scientific journal papers and of several books including the recent Past Glacial Environments (2018, Elsevier, co-edited with Prof Em. Jaap van der Meer). Prof Menzies has also co-hosted MSc training courses for nine International Workshops for the Micromorphology of Glacial Sediments for PhD students and Postdocs and Faculty.

Emrys Phillips
Emrys Phillips works at the British Geological Survey in Edinburgh and currently holds an Individual Merit post in recognition of his research into the macro- and microscale analysis of soft-sediment deformation in relation to glacier movement and ice sheet dynamics. He obtained degrees from the universities of Manchester (BSc, MSc) and Cardiff (PhD). His primary role at the British Geological Survey is to provide detailed specialist scientific input into the multidisciplinary science program and he currently leads the Seafloor, Coasts and Landscapes group as part of its Environmental Challenge. He has gained extensive experience in the field of Earth Science working on a variety of research and commercial projects throughout the UK, Iceland, North America, Africa, Europe and the Middle East, as well as increasingly offshore. He is an author of numerous scientific journal papers, book chapters and field guides, as well as geological maps and memoirs.
