Ernst Niederleithinger
Dr. Ernst Niederleithinger received a diploma in geophysics from the Technical University of Berlin in 1990 and a Doctorate degree from the University of Potsdam in 2010. After working for 11 years with a small geophysical contractor, he joined BAM in 2001. He serves as the Deputy Head of the Division of Non-destructive Testing in Civil Engineering. His work is dedicated to the development and application of geophysical techniques for civil and geotechnical engineering. He currently focuses on quality assurance of foundations, seismic migration algorithms applied on ultrasonic echo data, and ultrasonic monitoring with ideas borrowed from seismology. His work is integrated into various national and international research programs financed by the government and industry. In addition, he lectures at RWTH Aachen University. In 2013, he was a visiting research professor at Colorado School of Mines. He has authored or co-authored several handbooks and guidelines on non-destructive testing and geophysics. He organizes and co-organizes workshops and conferences, among them NDT-CE 2015.

John Popovics
John S. Popovics holds B.S. and M.S. degrees (Drexel University 1988 and 1990, respectively) in civil engineering, and a Ph.D. (The Pennsylvania State University 1994) in engineering science and mechanics. He has been on the faculty of the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois since January 2002. He has also held the positions of Research Assistant Professor at Northwestern University, Assistant Professor at Drexel University, Guest Scientist at the German Federal Materials Research Institute (BAM-Berlin), Visiting Professor at the Polytechnic University of Valencia in Spain and Visiting Researcher, Laboratoire Centrale des Pont et Chaussées (LCPC) in France. Dr. Popovics teaches undergraduate and graduate level courses on materials properties, construction material corrosion and durability, concrete technology, and non-destructive testing.

Wallace Wai Lok Lai
Wallace Wai Lok Lai is an Associate Professor at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He has been working on nondestructive and geophysical diagnosis and imaging of unseen members and hazards in underground utility networks and concrete infrastructures, or simply ‘seeing the unseen’. His main teaching and research interests include survey & mapping, 3D imaging, and diagnosis of engineering structures, underground utilities, construction materials, hydro-geophysics, and site of archaeology values. These techniques include ground penetrating radar, infrared thermography, acoustic, ultrasound, electrical resistivity, and acoustic leak noise correlation.
