Before 1989, the core of comparative economics was the comparison of economic systems with in particular the economic analysis of socialism in its different forms. In the last fifteen years, the main focus of interest of comparative economists has been the transition from socialism to capitalism. In recent years, mostly as a result of the transition experience, a new orientation of comparative economics has emerged that focuses on the comparison of the economic effects of the various institutions of capitalism, be it in the legal sphere (common law versus civil law), in the political sphere (different types of democracies and electoral regimes) or in the sphere of culture, social norms, etc. This new orientation is a natural development following the very diverse experience of transitions from socialism to capitalism. An International Journal of Social Network AnalysisSocial Networks is an interdisciplinary and international quarterly. It provides a common forum for representatives of anthropology, sociology, history, social psychology, political science, human geography, biology, economics, communications science and other disciplines who share an interest in the study of the empirical structure of social relations and associations that may be expressed in network form. An Official Journal of the European Federation of Sport Psychology (FEPSAC)Psychology of Sport and Exercise is an international forum for scholarly reports in the psychology of sport and exercise, broadly defined. The journal is open to the use of diverse methodological approaches. To be considered for publication, manuscripts must make a substantive theoretical or methodological contribution. Manuscripts that will be considered for publication include results from high quality empirical research, reviews, meta-analyses, reports of professional practice (which need to demonstrate academic rigour and go beyond mere description), registered reports, and commentaries concerning already published PSE papers. Authors should adhere to recognised reporting guidelines for research (e.g., PRISMA guidelines for reviews and meta-analyses; TIDieR guidelines for interventions; CONSORT statement for randomised trials). Registered reports undergo a two-phase review process in which study rationale and methodology are considered prior to the research being undertaken. Authors are welcome to pre-register their study with an external organization (e.g. OSF), but it is not required. Body Image is an international, peer-reviewed journal that publishes high-quality, scientific articles on body image and human physical appearance. Body image represents a person's "inside view" of their body-that is, their feelings, perceptions, thoughts, and beliefs about their body that impact how they behave toward it (Cash, 2004). While physical appearance is an important aspect of body image, it is not the only aspect, as embodiment (how a person uses their body to engage with the world) and focusing on (and appreciating) body functionality are additional aspects of body image. We invite contributions from a broad range of disciplines - psychological science, other social and behavioral sciences, and medical and health sciences. We have a weight-inclusive focus rather than a weight-normative or weight-centric focus (see here for an explanation).Body Image publishes a variety of article types, including original research articles, brief research reports, theoretical and review papers (systematic reviews and meta-analyses), scale development and adaptation articles, replication studies, protocol articles, methodological innovations that could be used to advance body image research, unexpected/null results articles, and ideas worth researching. Journal of Development Economics
The Journal of Development Economics publishes original research papers relating to all aspects of economic development - from immediate policy concerns to structural problems of underdevelopment. The emphasis is on quantitative or analytical work, which is novel and relevant. The Journal does not publish book reviews. We welcome papers that take up questions in development economics that are of interest to the general readers of the journal, and then use data from a particular country or region to answer them. However, we do not publish articles that are essentially in-depth studies of a specific country, region, case, or event whose findings are unlikely to be of great interest to the general readers of the journal. In our review process we pre-screen all papers, some of which are immediately rejected. This includes papers that are not considered to be a good fit in terms of the topic or the methodology even though development is a broad field and sometimes this is a matter of subjective judgment. This also includes papers that fall short of our high standards, in terms of the contribution or value added to the literature, or in terms of methodological rigor. The Journal receives approx. 1300 papers per year and publishes only a small fraction (around 6-8%). To make this work in a timely fashion we only send 1/4 papers out for review. Given this volume we regret that we cannot provide explanations on our desk reject papers. Under normal circumstances, an author cannot submit (either s/he directly or through a co-author) more than three papers within any 12 month period. Papers that are once rejected by the JDE will not be considered for publication again, even if the authors use a new dataset or a new model. This is only possible if the editor in his or her decision letter explicitly leaves open this possibility. Special submissions:Register... Reports: The JDE offers authors the opportunity to have their prospective empirical projects reviewed and approved for publication before the results are known (referred to as 'Registered Reports'). The Journal of Corporate Finance aims to publish high quality, original manuscripts or shorter format papers in both theoretical and empirical corporate finance. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: financial structure, governance, product markets, payout, labor, innovation, risk management, financial contracting, and international finance. Papers at the intersection of corporate finance and macroeconomics, asset pricing, household, behavioral, fintech and blockchain, law, financial intermediation, or microstructure also are encouraged.The new Editorial Board is committed to a timely and constructive reviewing process and seeks to streamline the editorial process by implementing an active desk-rejection policy. Assessing Writing
Assessing Writing is a refereed international journal providing a forum for ideas, research and practice on the assessment of written language. Assessing Writing publishes articles, book reviews, conference reports, and academic exchanges concerning writing assessments of all kinds, including traditional ('direct' and standardised forms of) testing of writing, alternative performance assessments (such as portfolios), workplace sampling and classroom assessment. The journal focuses on all stages of the writing assessment process, including needs evaluation, assessment creation, implementation, and validation, and test development; it aims to value all perspectives on writing assessment as process, product and politics (test takers and raters; test developers and agencies; educational administrations; and political motivations). The journal is interested in review essays of key issues in the theory and practice of writing assessment.Assessing Writing embraces internationalism and will attempt to reflect the concerns of teachers, researchers and writing assessment specialists around the world, whatever their linguistic background. Articles are published in English and normally relate to the assessment of English language writing, but articles in English about the assessment of writing in languages other than English will be considered. While Assessing Writing frequently publishes articles about the assessment of writing in the fields of composition, writing across the curriculum, and TESOL (the teaching of English to speakers of other languages), it welcomes articles about the assessment of writing in professional and academic areas outside these fields.The scope of the journal is wide, and embraces all work in the field at all age levels, in large-scale (international, national and state) as well as classroom, educational and non-educational institutional contexts, writing and programme evaluation, writing and critical literacy, and the role of technology in the assessment of writing. Aims & ScopeAn Interdisciplinary Journal of Language StudiesSince 1977, the Journal of Pragmatics has provided a forum for bringing together a wide range of research in pragmatics, including cognitive pragmatics, corpus pragmatics, experimental pragmatics, historical pragmatics, interpersonal pragmatics, multimodal pragmatics, sociopragmatics, theoretical pragmatics and related fields. Our aim is to publish innovative pragmatic scholarship from all perspectives. Submissions need to engage with current pragmatic theorising of how speakers produce and interpret language in different contexts, while drawing on attested data from a wide range of languages/cultures in different parts of the world.The Journal of Pragmatics also encourages work that uses attested language data to explore the relationship between pragmatics and neighbouring research areas such as semantics, discourse analysis, conversation analysis and ethnomethodology, interactional linguistics, sociolinguistics, linguistic anthropology, media studies, psychology, sociology, and the philosophy of language. The official journal of the World Conference on Transport Research Society (WCTRS)Transport Policy is an international refereed journal aimed at improving quality of transport policy and strategy analysis, designing and sharing innovative policy and management practices, and application bridging the gap between theory and practice in transport. Its subject areas reflect the concerns of policymakers in government, management strategists in industry, and the public at large, providing independent, original and rigorous analysis to understand how policy and strategy decisions have been made, monitor their effects, and suggest how they may be improved.Transport Policy covers the entire transport sector including all modes: air, maritime, urban, intercity, domestic and international transport economics, policy and strategy issues, etc. Policy and strategy concerns in transport are wide and cover safety, efficiency, economic development, infrastructure, environment, energy, land-use, equity and access. Papers are expected to have clear policy and strategy relevance, to analyze/evaluate transport policies and strategies using up-to-date research methods (both quantitative and qualitative). Papers are also welcomed which focus on understanding the nature and influences affecting policy and strategy change, including technical, attitudinal, institutional, structural and political constraints, including those which provide a comparative analysis. Papers focusing only on methodological development without clear policy focus and relevance will NOT be considered. However, we welcome qualitative policy papers that build on the body of literature, and show clear contributions over and above what exist in the literature, and/or widely applicable to other jurisdictions. (Qualitative papers will NOT be considered if the author(s) advocate certain policy positions without presenting a rigorous framework of analysis.)
