Ageing Research Reviews
As the average human life expectancy has increased, so too has the impact of ageing and age-related disease on our society. Ageing research is now the focus of thousands of laboratories that include leaders in the areas of genetics, molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, and behaviour. Ageing Research Reviews (ARR) covers the trends in this field. It is designed to fill a large void, namely, a source for critical reviews and viewpoints on emerging findings on mechanisms of ageing and age-related disease. Rapid advances in understanding of mechanisms that control cellular proliferation, differentiation and survival are leading to new insight into the regulation of ageing. From telomerase to stem cells to energy and oxyradical metabolism, this is an exciting new era in the multidisciplinary field of ageing research. The cellular and molecular underpinnings of manipulations that extend lifespan, such as caloric restriction, are being identified and novel approaches for preventing age-related diseases are being developed. ARR publishes articles on focussed topics selected from the broad field of ageing research, with an emphasis on cellular and molecular mechanisms of the aging process and age-related diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and neurodegenerative disorders. Applications of basic ageing research to lifespan extension and disease prevention are also covered in this journal.- ISSN: 1568-1637

Nuclear Medicine and Biology
Official Journal of the Society of Radiopharmaceutical SciencesNuclear Medicine and Biology publishes original research addressing all aspects of radiopharmaceutical science for imaging as well as therapeutic applications. More specifically the synthesis (automated and manual), in vitro and ex vivo studies, in vivo biodistribution by dissection or imaging, radiopharmacology, radiopharmacy of new radiopharmaceuticals... Translational studies of novel targeted radiopharmaceuticals... e.g. first in human use, are warmly welcomed. In addition, in vivo imaging studies using radioactive tracers for physiological and pathophysiological research or drug discovery support are welcome. In all cases, the importance of the target to an unmet clinical need should be the first consideration. These multidisciplinary studies should validate the mechanism of localization whether the tracer is based on binding to a receptor, enzyme, antigen, or another well-defined target. The studies should be aimed at evaluating how the chemical and radiopharmaceutical properties affect pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, or therapeutic efficacy. Ideally, the study would address the sensitivity of the tracer to changes in disease or treatment, although studies validating mechanism alone are acceptable as well. In the case of therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals... the specificity of labeled compound localization and therapeutic effect should be addressed. If the synthesis of a new radiopharmaceutical is submitted without in vitro or in vivo data, then the uniqueness of the chemistry must be emphasized and should provide a substantial improvement over existing methodologies.Articl... related to radiopharmacy, addressing the issues of preparation, automation, quality control, dispensing, and regulations applicable to qualification and administration of radiopharmaceuticals to humans, are also welcome if the article provides a significant impact on the field.- ISSN: 0969-8051

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta: Gene Regulatory Mechanisms
BBA Gene Regulatory Mechanisms includes reports that describe novel insights into mechanisms of transcriptional, post-transcriptional and translational gene regulation. Special emphasis is placed on papers that identify epigenetic mechanisms of gene regulation, including chromatin, modification, and remodeling. This section also encompasses mechanistic studies of regulatory proteins and protein complexes; regulatory or mechanistic aspects of RNA processing; regulation of expression by small RNAs; genomic analysis of gene expression patterns; and modeling of gene regulatory pathways. Papers describing gene promoters, enhancers, silencers or other regulatory DNA regions must incorporate significant functions studies. The journal does not favorably review manuscripts identifying a miRNA-target pair without additional insights into the repression mechanism or significant advances in understanding regulatory pathways. In addition, the following elements should be an integral part of the study: •In silico prediction of miRNA targets must be experimentally verified using appropriate luciferase constructs and assays; •To exclude non-functional miRNA/mRNA interactions a reporter system including the whole 3'UTR of the target gene downstream the "luciferase" or GFP should be considered; •Any miRNA modulation should be validated by measuring the expression of the putative proteinPlease see our Guide for Authors for information on article submission. ArticlesThe Current Opinion journals were developed out of the recognition that it is increasingly difficult for specialists to keep up to date with the expanding volume of information published in their subject. In the Current Opinion journals, we help the reader by providing in a systematic manner: (1) The views of experts on current advances in the field in a clear and readable form. (2) Evaluations of the most interesting papers, annotated by experts, from the great wealth of original publications. The aim of the manuscript is to review recent articles, with particular emphasis on those articles published in the past two years. In addition to describing recent trends, you are encouraged to give your subjective opinion of the topics discussed, although you should not concentrate unduly on your own research. Your review should be approximately 2000 words (not including references or reference notes), with approximately 50 references and, as such, the review is intended to be a concise view of the field as it is at the moment, rather than a comprehensive overview. Our audience ranges from student to professor, so articles must be accessible to a wide readership. Please avoid jargon, but do not oversimplify: be accurate and precise throughout. Occasionally, unpublished data can be referred to, but only when essential and should never be used to substantiate any significant point. Editorial OverviewSection Editors write a short overview at the beginning of the section to introduce the reviews and to draw the reader's attention to any particularly interesting developments. This successful format has made COSB one of the most highly regarded review journals in the field. Please see further information under writing and formatting – additional information.- ISSN: 0959-440X

Progress in Biophysics & Molecular Biology
Aims and Scope: Progress in Biophysics &Molecular Biology is an international review journal and covers the ground between the physical and biological sciences since its launch in 1950. It indicates to the physicist the great variety of unsolved problems awaiting attention in biology and medicine. The biologist and biochemist will find that this journal presents new and stimulating ideas and novel approaches to studying and influencing structural and functional properties of the living organism. This journal will be of particular interest to biophysicists, biologists, biochemists, cell physiologists, systems biologists, and molecular biologists. The purpose of the journal is to present invited, informative and critical reviews of recent advances in different aspects of biophysics and molecular biology. The Editors welcome suggestions of topics and potential authors. As the scope of Progress in Biophysics &Molecular Biology is wide and of interest to scientists in many disciplines, authors should treat their subject matter in a manner that is authoritative yet also easily comprehensible to those who are not experts in the field. Whilst the aim of the journal is primarily to publish substantial articles reviewing progress over an extensive field, review articles covering recent advances on more limited topics are also welcome. In addition, the journal publishes many Thematic Special Issues dedicated to specific areas of investigation - often linked to high-level international conferences - that contain both substantive reviews and original research papers.- ISSN: 0079-6107

Journal of Biomedical Informatics
Endorsed by the American Medical Informatics AssociationThe Journal of Biomedical Informatics (JBI) is the premier methodology journal in the field of biomedical informatics. JBI publishes research on new methodologies and techniques that have general applicability and form the basis for the evolving science of biomedical informatics. Papers should focus on a real-world biomedical or clinical problem, develop a novel approach to address the problem, and evaluate its appropriateness in comparison to the current state-of-the-art (SoA) methods. Involvement of healthcare professionals in motivating the work and evaluation of results is expected.Focus Areas and Topics of InterestJBI seeks to publish papers that make a conceptual contribution to the field, typically by describing an innovation in methodology or technique or by discussing substantive generalizable lessons that have been learned in the context of an informatics project. When a methodological contribution has a theoretical basis, that theory is an appropriate emphasis for papers as well. Research papers may also present a novel "method of methods" explaining how to apply the existing methods to a space of biomedical problems that share unique characteristics influencing the choice of methods.JBI publishes papers on a wide range of informatics topics. However, across these topics, papers must build on deep understanding and utilization of medical domain knowledge and should consider pragmatic translation for clinical care or applications. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to) clinical decision support, patient safety, natural language processing, artificial intelligence and machine learning, knowledge representation for healthcare, translational bioinformatics, clinical research informatics, and clinical informatics. Additional considerations for papers in the areas of translational bioinformatics, machine learning, security and privacy are provided below. Irrespective of the topic, papers must focus on novel informatics methods and its comparison to the current approaches.Manuscrip... can be submitted in the following categories: original research, methodological review (by-invitation only), commentaries (usually by-invitation), special communication, letters to the editor, and editorials (by-invitation only); (see additional details on each of these categories below). Given the international readership of JBI, country-specific health systems or approaches will be considered only if they offer generalizable lessons that are relevant to the broader readership, regardless of their country, language, culture, or health system.Specific considerations for manuscripts in certain topical areas have also been provided in recent editorials. If you are considering an article with a focus on translational bioinformatics , please read this editorial. Biologic discoveries based on the use of routine informatics techniques may be important biologic contributions, but are not suitable for JBI. In addition, please note that JBI publishes bioinformatics papers only if they deal with issues in translational (human) science (e.g., translational bioinformatics papers). If you are considering an article describing a new machine learning approach, please read this editorial. Machine learning papers would be considered only if the methods that are introduced demonstrate substantial novelty and advancement beyond the current SoA and their evaluation is sound and includes an assessment of the potential of the method to be used in clinical practice. For example, submissions reporting publishing marginally SoA findings without an in-depth analysis or discussion of how the methods are potentially generalizable (or applicable in a wider setting) would not be considered. Novel and important clinical problems addressed by existing machine learning methods may warrant Special Communication papers if their discussion includes novel insights or lessons learned for future research in such domains.Authors considering an article on biomedical privacy and security, please read this editorial. To be considered, the privacy and security methods that are introduced should demonstrate substantial novelty and advancement beyond the SoA, should be specific to the biomedical informatics domain, and their practical application and/or likely real-world usefulness in the biomedical domain. Please note that papers related to signal processing, imaging, medical devices, or communication networks are outside the scope of the journal unless they combine knowledge-intensive approaches involving ontologies. Please also consult the editorial that explains where to direct Artificial Intelligence in Medicine-related manuscripts for peer review and possible publication, considering the different scope of the three Elsevier medical informatics journals: JBI, Artificial Intelligence in Medicine, and Intelligence-based Medicine.- ISSN: 1532-0464

In addition, they provide short annotations to the papers that they consider to be most interesting from all those published in their topic over the previous year.Editorial Overview Section Editors write a short overview at the beginning of the section to introduce the reviews and to draw the reader's attention to any particularly interesting developments.Ethics in Publishing: General Statement The Editor(s) and Publisher of this Journal believe that there are fundamental principles underlying scholarly or professional publishing. While this may not amount to a formal 'code of conduct', these fundamental principles with respect to the authors' paper are that the paper should: i) be the authors' own original work, which has not been previously published elsewhere, ii) reflect the authors' own research and analysis and do so in a truthful and complete manner, iii) properly credit the meaningful contributions of co-authors and co-researchers, iv) not be submitted to more than one journal for consideration, and v) be appropriately placed in the context of prior and existing research. Of equal importance are ethical guidelines dealing with research methods and research funding, including issues dealing with informed consent, research subject privacy rights, conflicts of interest, and sources of funding. While it may not be possible to draft a 'code' that applies adequately to all instances and circumstances, we believe it useful to outline our expectations of authors and procedures that the Journal will employ in the event of questions concerning author conduct. With respect to conflicts of interest, the Publisher now requires authors to declare any conflicts of interest that relate to papers accepted for publication in this Journal. A conflict of interest may exist when an author or the author's institution has a financial or other relationship with other people or organizations that may inappropriately influence the author's work. A conflict can be actual or potential and full disclosure to the Journal is the safest course. All submissions to the Journal must include disclosure of all relationships that could be viewed as presenting a potential conflict of interest. The Journal may use such information as a basis for editorial decisions and may publish such disclosures if they are believed to be important to readers in judging the manuscript. A decision may be made by the Journal not to publish on the basis of the declared conflict. For more information, please refer to: https://www.elsevier...- ISSN: 0955-0674

Structure
Structure aims to publish papers of exceptional interest in the field of structural biology. The journal strives to be essential reading for structural biologists, as well as biologists and biochemists that are interested in macromolecular structure and function. Structure strongly encourages the submission of manuscripts that present structural and molecular insights into biological function and mechanism. Other reports that address fundamental questions in structural biology, such as structure-based examinations of protein evolution, folding, and/or design, will also be considered. We will consider the application of any method, experimental or computational, at high or low resolution, to conduct structural investigations, as long as the method is appropriate for the biological, functional, and mechanistic question(s) being addressed. Likewise, reports describing single-molecule analysis of biological mechanisms are welcome. In general, the editors encourage submission of experimental structural studies that are enriched by an analysis of structure-activity relationships and will not consider studies that solely report structural information unless the structure or analysis is of exceptional and broad interest. Studies reporting only homology models, de novo models, or molecular dynamics simulations are also discouraged unless the models are informed by or validated by novel experimental data; rationalization of a large body of existing experimental evidence and making testable predictions based on a model or simulation is often not considered sufficient.- ISSN: 0969-2126

Please see further information under Writing and Formatting – Additional information. Editor... OverviewSection Editors write a short overview at the beginning of the section to introduce the reviews and to draw the reader's attention to any particularly interesting developments. This successful format has made Current Opinion in Genetics and Development one of the most highly regarded and highly cited review journals in the field.- ISSN: 0959-437X

Developmental Cell
Developmental Cell, launched in 2001, is a broad-interest journal covering the areas of cell biology and developmental biology. In addition to publishing work spanning all areas of cell biology and developmental biology, we have particular interest in how these fields interface with each other and with other disciplines in biology. The journal aims to showcase work that examines, through a cell biological lens, the fundamentals of how a cell works, how cells interact with one another and with the environment, how cells come together to form a tissue, organ, and ultimately a whole organism, and what happens when any of these processes go awry. Our PhD-trained scientific editors work with authors, reviewers, and editorial board members to publish 12 issues each year, filled with exciting research describing results of unusual significance. We also publish review and perspective articles tailored to the journal’s broad readership. With this wide coverage, Developmental Cell is a unique cross-disciplinary resource for researchers in cell biology and developmental biology and for the general scientific community.Developmental Cell will consider papers in any area of cell biology or developmental biology, as well as at the interface either of these fields make to any other areas in biology. Examples of these include signaling, cell proliferation, polarity, cell migration, cell lineage and fate specification, chromatin regulation and function, cancer cell biology, evo-devo, disease etiology, membrane traffic, metabolic regulation, morphogenesis and biomechanics, organ development, ncRNAs, stem cell biology, and regeneration. Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology
Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology was established in 1974 to meet the demand for integrated publication on all aspects related to the genetic and biochemical effects, synthesis and secretions of extracellular signals (hormones, neurotransmitters, etc.) and to the understanding of cellular regulatory mechanisms involved in hormonal control. The journal is fulfilling this aim by publishing full-length original research papers, rapid papers, reviews, invited Special Issues, and book reviews. The scope encompasses all subjects related to genetic, epigenetic, biochemical, and molecular aspects of endocrine research and cell regulation. These include: (1) mechanisms of action of extracellular signals (hormones, neurotransmitters, etc.), (2) interaction of these factors with receptors, (3) generation, action and role of intracellular signals such as cyclic nucleotides and calcium, (4) hormone-regulated gene expression, (5) impact of gene structure on endocrine functions, (6) structure and physicochemical properties of hormones, hormone receptors and other hormone-binding components, (7) synthesis, secretion, metabolism and inactivation of hormones, neurotransmitters, etc. (8) hormonal control of differentiation, (9) related control mechanisms in non-mammalian systems, (10) methodological and theoretical aspects related to hormonal control processes, (11) clinical and translational studies as far as they throw new light on basic research in this field, (12) control of intermediary metabolism at the cellular level, (13) ultrastructural aspects related to hormone secretion and action, (14) comparative aspects of endocrinology only if they elucidate novel hormonal mechanisms.- ISSN: 0303-7207

Molecular Aspects of Medicine
Molecular Aspects of Medicine is a review journal for Physicians and Biomedical Scientists and an official journal of the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Molecular Aspects of Medicine aims to encourage the bridging of the gap between clinicians of all relevant specialities and biomedical scientists. The journal anticipates that most of the authors contributing to the series will be practising clinical scientists who will develop their own personal perspective as an extended review on the molecular aspects of a field of medicine in which they are working, addressing themselves both to the doctor who is ill-at-ease with basic science, and to the basic scientist with little awareness of the problems of clinical practice. It publishes articles on a spectrum of topics in medicine to illustrate not only the molecular insights that derive from the application of basic science, but also the variety of challenging problems that medicine is able to offer the basic scientist.Submission... on from biochemistry and molecular and cell biology to physiology, pharmacology and pathology are particularly welcomed.- ISSN: 0098-2997
