Comprehensive Biotechnology has long been a key reference for students and researchers in the field. This new edition updates and expand the work, helping readers making connections among different disciplines. Biotechnology provides solutions to address challenges with sustainable socioeconomic development, and improve people livelihood. An example above all is synthetic biology for designing and manufacturing new products such as mRNA vaccines, which have come to the fore in the fight against Covid-19. Unprecedented progress has been made in all aspects of biotechnology, driven by breakthroughs in fundamental life science, technological innovations and their application. Many governments are encouraging the development of biotechnology with preferential policies. Given this rapid progress, there is a need to update this essential reference. The fourth edition of Comprehensive Biotechnology expands the previous version with a whole new volume on marine biotechnology and products. It improves existing volumes to include frontier progress in omics analyses, bioinformatics, metabolic engineering and synthetic biology. The entire work is comprehensively reviewed to remove unnecessary redundance, ensuring readers can quickly find the information they need. A unified structure, language and depth in each chapter ensures they can be used for learning and teaching, and provide a unique platform for scientist exploring new fields not directly related to their specialty. No other work on the market brings together the same wealth of information as Comprehensive Biotechnology does.
• - Comprehensive and up to date, this is a fundamental resource for students and instructors, and a unique tool for researchers exploring cross-disciplinary topics. • - As well as fundamentals, this work considers ethical, legal and broader societal impacts of biotechnology. • - Agricultural, industrial and environmental biotechnology are substantially renewed to highlight recent methods development. • - Medical biotechnology is updated to include fundamental progress in areas such as cellular and gene therapies, and mRNA vaccines. • - A whole new volume is added, focussing on marine biotechnology and products.
Students and researchers in the many fields relating to Biotechnology: Biological Science, Bioprocess Engineering, Biomedical Science, Environmental Biotechnology.
Each of the following sections will include about 50 chapters: 1. Scientific Fundamentals in Biotechnology 2. Engineering Principles in Biotechnology 3. Agricultural and Food Biotechnology 4. Industrial Biotechnology 5. Medical Biotechnology and Healthcare 6. Marine Biotechnology and Bioproducts 7. Environmental Biotechnology and Biosafety
